Salmon River Fishing Adventures
Salmon River Fishing as August comes to a close the Chinook (king) and Coho (Silver) Salmon start to make their annual spawning migration from the deep waters of Lake Ontario into the surrounding bays, estuaries, and tributaries. This is a world class fishery with the opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime at any moment. Beginning in September we primarily target Chinook (king) Salmon weighing between 15lbs - 25lbs, and Coho (Silver) Salmon weighing between 8lbs - 15lbs with the addition of Steelhead Trout 5lbs-15lbs and Brown Trout 5lbs-15lbs coming later in October / November.
We spend the first few weeks of the fall run fishing at night from driftboats at the mouth of the Salmon River where it meets Lake Ontario. This type of fishing can be very productive and extremely exciting, it is also not very technical. I highly recommend these trips for families with children and lesser experienced anglers as it is a very basic type of fishing and a good introduction to Saimon fishing and our fishery. The night trips are 6 hours long, start around September 15th and run through early October. September and early October is some of the best fishing due to the fact that the fish are fresh out of the lake and have received little pressure.
As we transition into October the majority of the Salmon progress up the rivers and streams to spawn. This is an extremely exciting time of year as the rivers are filled with huge fish! Whether you prefer fly fishing, spinning gear, or back trolling (plugging) we'll supply all the tackle and equipment and teach you the ethical way to catch these Salmon River monsters. As crowds and fishing pressure increase, our driftboats and local knowledge allow us to get you away from the crowd and into some of the best spots on the Salmon river and surrounding tributaries. We supply all necessary tackle and equipment, Waders are recommended for river driftboat trips, other than that all you need to bring is appropriate clothing for the conditions and whatever you would like to eat and drink.
